8 WEEKS
When this busy family bought this property in its original condition with a 4-week settlement period, the brief was to get to work. And get to work fast.
This homeowner had a good understanding of what they wanted to be included in this renovation and had a good sense of their personal style, which made the preparation a little easier given the short timeframe prior to demolition day.
It was important to identify the best use of their budget in achieving their dream goal, and within the time-frame allowance as they were paying rent during the renovation period and therefore needed to keep this to a minimum. The property was a maze of small rooms on the ground floor, and therefore the brief was to completely open everything up, to expand the kitchen to create a larger footprint and make it the central focus of the home.
‘Madeline Mackenzie’s’ kitchen in the Netflix series ‘Big Little Lies’ was the influence.
Converting the old dining room and laundry to create a larger laundry, walk-in pantry and downstairs toilet were also key to this family home. The garden had limited grassed area for the kids to play due to a large and an extremely overgrown ‘pool’ (if you could call it that). This problem was fixed by filling in the pool and turfing the area to create a large garden. Two-weeks into the renovation, the client requested to add to the scope a ‘cost-effective refresh’ of their family bathroom and ensuite, which we managed to achieve on a very tight budget and by only adding two days onto the project timeline.
